I know I usually try and be upbeat…but this poem was written after hearing the heartbreaking news that one of my playmates from Minds and Voices, Rita, had taken her last breathe…. just states my greatest fear at the mo and the greatest fear of many of my playmates living with dementia…..and every now and then it whittles in my head…..so I thought, if I write it down, it might not appear so often….
When this is all over
Will we remember what to do?
When we’re allowed to trundle
When we’re allowed to crowd…..
When this is all over
Will we be able once more
To take a simple trip
To walk into a crowded room
When this is all over
We’ll all need support
To discover a new normal
To discover the world once more…….
or will it be too late………?….sadly no one knows….
Dedicated to my lovely playmate Rita, the gorgeous lady that could light up the room with her smile……..
Really lovely poem & a wonderful picture of you both. Love, hugs & strength Wendy. xx

Hi Wendy,
Your poem expresses well feelings I can identify with. I walked down a High Street yesterday to pick up a prescription and it was awful to see the closed-up shops, the small and the great names, and wonder about all those whose lives may never be the same again. It highlights the fragility of life behind a facade of strength and dependability.
But I don’t want to add further to this sense of unease. I have held back until now to speak out of respect for the fact that this is your site, but feel I must tell you about something that gives me undimmed confidence in the future and comfort in the present.
Tonight is the anniversary of the last supper. The date was Nisan 14 according to the Jewish calendar of Jesus’ day, which corresponds to our April 7 this year. Why is this significant? Because what Jesus accomplished through his death opened up the way to redeem mankind and guarantee future blessings earth-wide and a permanent solution to suffering.

I hope you will not think ill of me for this. Rather, I just want to offer something that helps to make sense of our common predicament. Sometimes in life we have to take a risk if we want to reach another’s heart and share what we feel is worthwhile, and your poem sounded to me like a crie de coeur I should not and could not ignore.
Sincere best wishes,
Alex
