Last blog for a while…….

Hello all

Luckily the last 2 weeks of blogs were written a while ago.

Some of you may have seen on Facebook, but for those who havn’t…..I’ve got myself in a bit of a pickle….🙄

On Sunday 28th Jan. just 3 days before my birthday, I was getting ready to head to my daughter Gemma’s for a Sunday morning cuppa. Life was very normal, then suddenly my life was turned upside down, quite literally as I fell downstairs and spent the next week living my worst nightmare in Hull Royal hospital 🙈

I did it good and proper with 2 broken wrists and other injuries, which I’ll spare you the details. I did have a visit from an amazing therapy dog called Molly. By the time she left my smile had reappeared

The stay in hospital really affected my dementia, which is unsurprising, but by the following Sunday, I was ready to discharge myself. However, we had this amazing nurse who knew I wasn’t joking, and she sorted out everything in record time and at 4pm, just as she’d promised, I’d escaped my cell and was outside in the fresh air…

Needless to say my girls have been wonderful, as have friends and villagers. My lovely friend Philly from the Outer Hebrides has flown down to help my girls out keeping me in check 🤪

However, typing is both exhausting and painful, so I’m going to give myself time to recover. It may be a long slow process so expect me back when I reappear.

Hugs to everyone

Wendyxx

About wendy7713

On the 31st July 2014 I was diagnosed with Young Onset Dementia. I may not have much of a short term memory anymore but that date is one I’ll never forget. I’m 58 years young, live happily alone in Yorkshire, have 2 daughters and I’m currently still in full time employment in the NHS. However, I’m now in the process of taking early retirement to give me a chance of enjoying life while I’m still me. I've started this blog to allow me, in the first instance, to write all my thoughts before they’re lost. If anyone chooses to follow my ramblings it will serve as a way of raising awareness on the lack of research into Alzheimer's. It will hopefully convey the helplessness of those diagnosed with dementia, as there is no cure – the end is inevitable. However, I’m also hoping I can convey that, although we've been diagnosed, people like me still have a substantial contribution to make; we still have a sense of humour; we sill have feelings. I’m hoping to show the reality of trying to cope on a day to day basis with the ever-changing environment that dementia throws at those diagnosed with the condition. What I want is not sympathy. What I want is simply to raise awareness.

  2. Oh wow, Wendy. You were so strong and front centre in my thoughts over the weekend I wondered why. You’ll be deluged with messages to read , or have read to you, so I’ll just add one more well wishing ❤️ heart to your pile.

Glad the smile is back, the bruises are healing and you have such an army of support. Enjoy. 😉

Though we independent, single folk can find it a challenge to have folk in our space and our routine even without dementia blurring the edges.

So I wish you all, much luck and love for the coming days and weeks.

May the sun shine and the birds keep visiting your garden. We’ll miss your photos too.

    warm wishes ✨️ 💕 Sue

  6. So sorry to read about your fall and the injuries it caused, Wendy. My first thought was – ‘ I wonder if Wendy can see the sunrise through a window?’ Here’s hoping that you can and that it won’t be too long before you’re able to be outside, seeing the natural world and snapping away again! Much love xx

  9. I’m sorry to hear about your fall and injuries. My husband David is also hoping that you have a steady recovery.
My last lengthy comment didn’t go through. Basically: Review your own blogs to enjoy your walks in many places. Interview the Village children about the decorated stones they found and/or their favorite scarecrow. Choose a walking stick for the comfort of your wrist. Keep changing if necessary.

Sending healing energy and affection, Barbara

  14. So sorry to hear about your fall, Wendy. It must have been horrendous being in hospital. Thank goodness you had such a kind and caring nurse to get you out as soon as possible. Hope you will soon be able to resume your walks and enjoy nature outside. A wheelchair is not the best means of travel – as you say, pavements can be very uncomfortable. It hadn’t occurred to me to follow you on Facebook – have set that one right now!

Take care, enjoy being pampered and feel comforted in the knowledge that so many friends, known and unknown, are thinking of you. We shall all look forward to your return, when the time is right!

  23. Well now you’ve really gone and done it! I am so sorry to read about your fall. But glad you busted out of the hospital and are being cared for by your daughters and good friend. I was in the hospital for a week before Christmas, and couldn’t wait to escape! I too had one great nurse, otherwise it was oh so boring. Why is it people always seem to get injured on the body part most essential to their whole identity – in your case, those typing and photo-taking wrists. Dang! I will miss you every day, as will all your readers, and look forward to your return. Hope you have a good view of birds and sunrises. Sending smooth recovery vibes your way!

  24. Congratulations for surviving hospital and breaking yourself out early. Three cheers for that nurse ! Get well soon Wendy.

I hope you can find a way to keep up your skills with words. Will you be mentally typing things in your head until you can get back to using your fingers ?

  26. Wendy, I’m the bloke who contacted you because I’m writing a self-help book for people with mild to moderate cognitive difficulties, and you suggested I contacted George Rook, which I have. I hope to get the book out by Easter.
Anyway, I was very sorry to hear of your fall
All the best for a speedy full recovery,

  28. Hull Royal is a living Hell. I was in for ten days as I had to have Tests and they would only do one a day. I am doing a lot of full on academic research with Emma Wolverson who runs the Dementia Ward, she is good and that Ward seems to be as good as it can be,
