Billy blog…….

Billy here……….I’m giving Wendy a rest from blogging today as she gets ready to leave me for a busy week

Wendy often pops over to tend to my every need check I’m ok. I always insist she arrives after my morning snooze I like it when she visits in the afternoon as then I’m raring to play.

Last week was no exception, however, Wendy arrived very early and woke me from my slumber I was still asleep when Wendy let herself in. Usually she shouts me and I decide whether I can be bothered to scoot down the stairs and I shoot down the stairs and give her my friendliest meow and head straight for my bowl in the hope that she’ll forget that I shouldn’t be fed, on the off chance I have any biscuits left from breakfast.

However, last week, she didn’t shout me……so I lay there listening for the rattle of my food bowl sounds that would give me a clue as to what she was up to……..Apparently Toby from next door heard her and waited by the cat flap but I knew Wendy would protect my food bowl from predators say I was busy and wasn’t coming out to play……

I heard the back door open which meant Wendy had come over to potter in my outdoor palace the garden.

I didn’t want to look too keen as Wendy was early and had woken me up, So I raced downstairs sauntered down and made myself comfortable outside. Because Wendy was early I simply sat and made sure Wendy wasn’t disturbing any of my gangways gave myself time to wake up

After a while Neil came over to hassle say hello and noticing that Wendy was making a fuss of him, decided it was time for me to stir…….
So I made it plain to Neil to clear off said hello to my friend and suggested it was his lunch time. I then got my allotted cuddle and inspected what Wendy had been up to……

And made sure none of my favourite twigs were being thrown out……

Once the garden bin was full there was nothing left but for us to go into the warm ……and have another cuddle……

Time for another nap me thinks…………

About wendy7713

On the 31st July 2014 I was diagnosed with Young Onset Dementia. I may not have much of a short term memory anymore but that date is one I’ll never forget. I’m 58 years young, live happily alone in Yorkshire, have 2 daughters and I’m currently still in full time employment in the NHS. However, I’m now in the process of taking early retirement to give me a chance of enjoying life while I’m still me. I've started this blog to allow me, in the first instance, to write all my thoughts before they’re lost. If anyone chooses to follow my ramblings it will serve as a way of raising awareness on the lack of research into Alzheimer's. It will hopefully convey the helplessness of those diagnosed with dementia, as there is no cure – the end is inevitable. However, I’m also hoping I can convey that, although we've been diagnosed, people like me still have a substantial contribution to make; we still have a sense of humour; we sill have feelings. I’m hoping to show the reality of trying to cope on a day to day basis with the ever-changing environment that dementia throws at those diagnosed with the condition. What I want is not sympathy. What I want is simply to raise awareness.

  1. My Mum is 88 years old and 19 years ago my Mum had a transient ischemic stroke we were on holiday in Jersey with our two young daughters. She had a couple of attacks after that although she didn’t know. Dad wanted her to go into hospital but she was being awkward in the end he just drove her there! She didn’t recognise anyone in the photos on her walls in the living room. Dad died in 2011 suddenly and she had to move out of her home and downsize it was now noticeable that she was no longer the Mum/Doreen we knew. Over the past 2 years she has deteriorated her sister Nancy had Dementia and was put in a private hospital. Sadly she died in 2011 when all her organs just shut down. We believe that my Nana also had Alzheimer’s but of course when I was younger people never spoke about it. She died a painful death as well. Mum talks as if I am her Mother sometimes and says things that aren’t true she hasn’t been violent thankfully. She cannot remember peoples names although she does remember my Husband’s birthday – seems to remember more about male relatives than even her own daughters. It is very sad – I am glad I saw your notification on Facebook. God bless you and keep safe and well xx
