A new online Radio programme……

Last week I had my first ‘zoom chat’ with Philly Hare from Innovations in Dementia. Zoom is like FaceTime and Skype – just another version.

Philly had asked if I would record one of my Dementia Diaries for the new radio programme called The ‘D’ Word. Each episode is about 30 minutes long and at the end of each episode the presenter plays a recording from Dementia Diaries, introduced by Philly.

The ‘D’ Word is the UK’s only dementia-based radio show. Presenter Pete Hill aims to raise the profile of the condition that affects 50 million across the globe. It can be listened to ‘on demand’ whenever is convenient for you.

Alongside many other guests, projects and topics, the D Word will feature a number of our Dementia Diarists including me and many of my playmates. Each of us simply reads out one of our favourite Diaries at the end of the programme.

The D Word is aired through UK Health Radio, a health information Station with the most in-depth information on the widest range of health and wellness topics – available anywhere today. UK Health Radio is on-air 24/7 and averages over 340 000 unique listeners per month.

You can listen to the D Word here:

Not sure when my one will be aired, but that’s irrelevant really as whichever playmate it is, you can be sure it will be brilliant.

About wendy7713

On the 31st July 2014 I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. I may not have much of a short term memory anymore but that date is one I’ll never forget. I’m 58 years young, live happily alone in Yorkshire, have 2 daughters and I’m currently still in full time employment in the NHS. However, I’m now in the process of taking early retirement to give me a chance of enjoying life while I’m still me. I've started this blog to allow me, in the first instance, to write all my thoughts before they’re lost. If anyone chooses to follow my ramblings it will serve as a way of raising awareness on the lack of research into Alzheimer's. It will hopefully convey the helplessness of those diagnosed with dementia, as there is no cure – the end is inevitable. However, I’m also hoping I can convey that, although we've been diagnosed, people like me still have a substantial contribution to make; we still have a sense of humour; we sill have feelings. I’m hoping to show the reality of trying to cope on a day to day basis with the ever-changing environment that dementia throws at those diagnosed with the condition. What I want is not sympathy. What I want is simply to raise awareness.
