Dementia Action Week is a coming………

Next Monday marks the start of Dementia Action week here. My week actually starts on Sunday In Wharfedale…….followed by a chaotic day on Monday starting in Leeds with the Book Fairies (all will be revealed in my blog), then in the middle I’m heading to York Uni yo deliver a Dementia Friends Session to students and staff and ending with a trip to Stoke on Trent ready for the start of Tuesday for an event at Keele Uni…..

That afternoon I head south to London for the Alzheimers Society Conference, then head for the lovely city of Bath for a Book Festival where I’ll be on stage with Nicki Gerrard. My week ends back in London at Whipps Cross Hospital with Bux Loveday delivering my part of her course…….

I’ve always said that I’d rather die of exhaustion than dementia……well this coming week should put that to the test….🙄

What will you be doing? Just one small action could make all the difference…….🙏

About wendy7713

On the 31st July 2014 I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. I may not have much of a short term memory anymore but that date is one I’ll never forget. I’m 58 years young, live happily alone in Yorkshire, have 2 daughters and I’m currently still in full time employment in the NHS. However, I’m now in the process of taking early retirement to give me a chance of enjoying life while I’m still me. I've started this blog to allow me, in the first instance, to write all my thoughts before they’re lost. If anyone chooses to follow my ramblings it will serve as a way of raising awareness on the lack of research into Alzheimer's. It will hopefully convey the helplessness of those diagnosed with dementia, as there is no cure – the end is inevitable. However, I’m also hoping I can convey that, although we've been diagnosed, people like me still have a substantial contribution to make; we still have a sense of humour; we sill have feelings. I’m hoping to show the reality of trying to cope on a day to day basis with the ever-changing environment that dementia throws at those diagnosed with the condition. What I want is not sympathy. What I want is simply to raise awareness.

  1. Isn’t there there a popular phrase something like ‘meeting yourself coming back’?
Am pretty sure you’ll need a few ‘cuppers’ but there will also be plenty of others that will find themselves feeling better for your time and energy !
Take care and carry on convincing ourselves to be who we are!
    Big love, Bob xx

  2. Wendy, just exhausted reading your diary for next week! My husband is being discharged from Maister Lodge next week, a fantastic Unit which I think you know of ( I think they transferred to Dove House during refurbishment a couple of years ago). My other highlight will be attending he Market Weighton All Saints Church for the joint Dementia and Carers celebration service on Wednesday 29 May.
Have a good week, have some time for yourself and your lovely family xx
