Big Ian Donaghy is a well known figure in York for raising awareness about dementia. I don’t think we\ve ever met (although I suppose we may have!( but I know him from Twitterland……..
Recently one of his wonderful films came to my attention….and I just had to share it as it says everything I say just perfectly…..so sit down with a cuppa and be enthralled for the next 3 minutes…..the man in the film is the dad of someone I know….
What an amazing film. It shows an aspect of dementia few (including me) hadn’t really considered before. In just a few minutes it explains so much. Thank you to all those involved.

Wow. Thank you for sharing. I’m ashamed to say I made the terrible assumption that Ian was the one living with dementia. It’s a harsh reminder that dementia doesn’t discriminate in the grounds of age. Thank you for reminding us all Wendy.

A powerful film with an unexpected ending.I ,also, assumed that it was the 88 year old who had dementia. That just proves the need for more education about dementia. You’re doing a very necessary thing,Wendy.Well done!

I thought it would be his wife with dementia. Good to have our assumptions getting a thorough shaking up. I don’t think I’ve come across this scenario before. Ian, like most people from his generation, shows not an ounce of self pity.

Great reminder, Wendy. Having a son or daughter with dementia must be even worse than getting it yourself. Wonderful to see him keeping his sense of humour. Love to him and his daughter. ❤

Thank you for sharing this Wendy. Love his sense of humour. A wonderful inspiring man and film. Like others I assumed that whilst watching it that because of his age at 88 that he was the one with dementia, something I think he wanted us to assume.
A reminder that dementia doesn’t discriminate in terms of age. I noticed his daughter was the same age as you when you were diagnosed. Great to see there are others like you who are trying so hard to spread awareness and change peoples’ perceptions.
Also, as someone who has a loved one with dementia, I’m not looking forward to the clocks going back 1 hour tonight. With my Dad not really knowing whether it is morning or evening, it will probably result in my Dad getting more confused than he already is with him getting less hours of daylight.
Best wishes as always.
Martin xx
