Nicci Gerrard visits me…….

And so the media circuit starts to ramp up…..…..

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned on my blog that I have a book coming out soon🤔, probably have and forgotten………

It’s called Somebody I use to Know and is out on the 1st February. I received my own copy last week and it was so surreal just to hold it……

Well yesterday, I had the wonderful photographer, Antonio Olmos, and the equally lovely Nicci Gerrard, come to my house for an interview with the Observer.

Antonio arrived first and spent the next hour or so taking photos in the house and out in the village. He has had some amazing assignments all over the world,  2 of which held in my mind. The first was a ‘Landscape of Murder’ project in London and the second was photographing Siberian Tigers, where the silence was so great, you could hear the snow fall………..how amazing……From Siberian Tigers to me🤣 – well I suppose everyone has to take the rough with the smooth……..🤣

Just as we were taking the last ones, Nicci arrived. What an amazing lady. I had no idea that she is responsible for  the wonderful John’s Campaign!

Anyway, we had such a fascinating talk for a couple of hours, talking about my book and beliefs. It felt a very different interview from the norm as it was a two way conversation. I felt comfortable and even though Nicci spent the time frantically writing, you weren’t aware of it as there was so much eye contact. She asked me at the end if I would remember her…..I said no, but I’d remember how nice and kind she;s been. At that moment in time nether could I remember what we’d spoken about……nothing…….so she said I’d have to read her article to find out – ha!. Hope I’d din’t say anything I shouldn’t have 🙄

Can’t wait to read her article due out at the end of the month.

Nicci Gerrard with good old reliable pen and paper…….

About wendy7713

On the 31st July 2014 I was diagnosed with Young Onset Dementia. I may not have much of a short term memory anymore but that date is one I’ll never forget. I’m 58 years young, live happily alone in Yorkshire, have 2 daughters and I’m currently still in full time employment in the NHS. However, I’m now in the process of taking early retirement to give me a chance of enjoying life while I’m still me. I've started this blog to allow me, in the first instance, to write all my thoughts before they’re lost. If anyone chooses to follow my ramblings it will serve as a way of raising awareness on the lack of research into Alzheimer's. It will hopefully convey the helplessness of those diagnosed with dementia, as there is no cure – the end is inevitable. However, I’m also hoping I can convey that, although we've been diagnosed, people like me still have a substantial contribution to make; we still have a sense of humour; we sill have feelings. I’m hoping to show the reality of trying to cope on a day to day basis with the ever-changing environment that dementia throws at those diagnosed with the condition. What I want is not sympathy. What I want is simply to raise awareness.

  1. Hi Wendy

I’ve pre-ordered your book, and can’t wait to read it! Is there any chance you could let us know via your blog when the Observer article comes out? I don’t normally buy newspapers but would like to read your interview.
